Orangery

Orangery

An orangery or orangerie was a building in the grounds of fashionable residences from the 17th to the 19th centuries, similar to a greenhouse or conservatory. The name reflects the original use of the building as a place where citrus trees were often wintered surviving through harsh frosts. The orangery also provided a luxurious extension to a property.

The orangery, however, was not just a greenhouse but a symbol of prestige and wealth and a feature of a garden, in the same way as a summerhouse. Often the orangery would contain an area in which to entertain in inclement weather.

Residence 9 is designed to replicate 19th Century timber designs in an authentic way but benefitting from modern materials and efficiencies. An orangery is a beautiful, usable addition to your home.
